Alternatives to self-harm

  • Scribble on photos of people in magazines
  • Throw a pair of socks against the wall repeatedly 
  • Tear apart photos or magazines
  • Go to the gym and exercise
  • Listen to music and sing along loudly
  • Splatter paint
  • Scribble on a piece of paper
  • Write your feelings on paper then rip it up in small pieces
  • Flatten aluminium cans 
  • Break sticks
  • Fill a jar or with colored water and glitter. When you're feeling upset or angry you can shake it to have the glitter move about and focus on that until the glitter settles
  • Cry it out
